Hi everyone, Eddi the Disaster Recovery Yeti here! I had so much fun this past week at the International Legal Technology Association Conference. I met so many great people, and learned so much! I even had my own hashtag, #SpotTheYeti – hopefully you were able to spot me because I was fast like a Nascar and discrete like a ninja! I even got scolded at one point and the venue told me I had to stay in my booth (booth #137!)  – I didn’t understand why, but probably for being too handsome ;].
In case you missed me:

On a serious note, I wanted to take a few minutes and emphasize my experience at this event. As I sat in during some of the sessions, I noticed some of the key pain points that many IT professionals in law firms encounter are the high cost of downtime and the lack of disaster recovery planning. Did you know that just one hour of application downtime caused by power outages, glitches, data theft, unauthorized access or equipment damage can cost more than a firm makes in a day? In fact, according to Aberdeen Group’s research, the average hourly loss is approximately $163,674. Wow, I have yeti to get used to that stat!

Law firms are at a higher risk than businesses in other fields, and here’s why: If an IT interruption occurs, there is virtually no access to data or applications to produce billable hours. Interruptions result in the inability to access financial systems, case management applications, the document management database and other critical software that help attorneys keep appointments, court dates and create briefs. So why not put a disaster recovery plan in place to help prevent these losses? Well, in reality, many believe that a disaster is caused by a natural disaster (hurricane, flood, etc.) so many firms don’t feel the need for a plan. Contrarily, disasters can occur due to hardware failures, operating system crashes, power outages and even human error. Jeez, that’s scary… and I know a thing or two about scary! The good news is, Eddi the Yeti is here to help you put a DR strategy in place! I’ve created this short white paper for law firms: The Essential Guide for Protecting Your Practice From IT Downtime. It provides insight on common causes of application downtime, how to identify your IT vulnerabilities and how to protect your practice from interruption.

I’d love your feedback, so let me know the next time you spot me at an event! Also, don’t forget to check out some of my new friends from #ILTA14!
