A True Business Continuity Solution is Ceeva’s Competitive Advantage
For Ceeva – a Pittsburgh-based IT provider specializing in the legal, non-profit and manufacturing industries – responding to customer calls is extremely important. So when support for their previous backup solution was preventing them from returning customer calls, Vice President of Sales Rick Topping said they knew it was time for a change. That’s when they found Axcient.
“Not only was the backup product inflexible, the support was very poor,” Topping said. “We couldn’t get a call back. With Axcient, we talk every week and their support is great.”
Axcient To The Rescue
While there are many disaster recovery and business continuity solutions in the market, Axcient’s approach is unique and ultimately the company’s excellence in support and product vision matched exactly with what Ceeva was looking for. He likes the fact that Axcient was built from the ground up with backup and business continuity in mind. “The centralized approach to managing all client devices also makes it much easier to implement and maintain,” he said, referring to the Web-based interface that Axcient uses for managing all devices on a client site, and for monitoring all clients in a single screen.
The Backup Chain
Ceeva currently serves more than 150 clients and focuses on reducing the time spent on administrative and maintance tasks. Unfortunately, clients running the legacy backup product were not helping Ceeva in that regard. “Every once in a while, for no apparent reason, the backup chain would be broken. This meant that we had to go back and redo the entire process, including initial snapshots, taking a considerable amount of time,” Topping said. With Axcient, Ceeva avoids this problem because of Axcient’s reverse incremental backup process that ensures the latest backup point is always a full backup.
True Business Continuity
You only know if a BCDR product works when it is put to the test. And that is exactly what happened at Ceeva. “One day our own primary file server – which is also used by our Accounting team for Quickbooks – went down. We just turned on the Failover VM option in Axcient for that server and got it running so quickly, the accounting manager never realized it had gone down in the first place!” In another instance, a client’s email server went down. But thanks to Axcient, the server was back up and running in less than an hour.
Total Cost of Ownership
Ceeva’s customers have up to 50 servers, many of which have virtual machines and run a combination of on-premise applications like Microsoft CRM, Quickbooks, financial and customer applications, and MS SQL based applications. With environments like these, having a comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plan is critical. Every hour of downtime can cost companies thousands of dollars, and part of Ceeva’s added value is helping clients understand the risks and the costs associated.
“Whether you have a formal BCDR plan or not, it all comes down to how quickly you can get your business up and running after a disaster,” Topping said. “Being able to offer an encompassing solution like Axcient becomes a competitive advantage, and is like having an insurance policy for your IT infrastructure.”
The fact that the Axcient solution is agentless (no need to manually install agents in each target machine), the speed in which you can setup backup jobs, and the Web-based interface are also key advantages. As Rick puts it, “I can log into the system and quickly get all your data back from anywhere I am; this for me is flexibility and speed.”
“For Topping, Ceeva provides more than a service, it provides value to its clients. And he sees Axcient the same way, a vendor that isn’t just offering a product, but a full disaster recovery and business continuity solution.”
