How Axcient Supports HIPAA Through Cloud-Based Business Continuity
How Axcient Can Help
For today’s healthcare organizations, traditional backup, disaster recovery, business continuity and archiving solutions just don’t cut it – they can’t keep applications running and information accessible instantly when something goes wrong. And configuring traditional solutions to meet rigorous HIPAA requirements may require resources, expertise and special tools that are not available or practical for many organizations.
Axcient is a new type of cloud platform that goes beyond backup to provide healthcare organizations with the most comprehensive and easy-to-use data protection solution that securely protects every part of their patient record and health information infrastructure, keeping data accessible, applications running, and doctors and administrators productive and in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
The Axcient Business Recovery Cloud is a consolidated hybrid cloud solution that provides both local and cloud protection for physical and virtual servers, laptops and workstations. The Axcient solution was built from the ground up to take full advantage of modern cloud technology and represents the latest developments in data protection and recovery. The Axcient technology was – and continues to be – developed in-house without the use of third-party software or licenses.
The HIPAA Privacy Rule
HIPAA’s Privacy Rule restricts the use and disclosure of PHI. Under the law, organizations must provide secure and private storage of personal health information to guard against reasonably anticipated threats of hazards when data is in transit and at rest.
Axcient complies with these laws because the implementation and subsequent use of the Axcient solution does not require or involve the use or disclosure of PHI. In fact, original versions of documents, once backed-up, cannot be accessed except by authorized personnel. Axcient’s disaster recovery-as-a-service solution encrypts the data in transit and at rest in our data centers.
The HIPAA Security Rule
HIPAA’s Security Rule sets forth administrative procedures, physical safeguards, and technical safeguards to protect access to PHI. This is where the Axcient solution can play an important role.
Axcient allows simple implementation of a data backup, business continuity, and disaster recovery plan. You can select and schedule what to backup and when to back it up. All data sent to our data center is transmitted and encrypted with a unique encryption key that meets the government standard for top-secret documents. Axcient’s disaster recovery-as-a-service solution encrypts the data in transit and at rest in our data centers. Datacenter access is strictly limited and enforced by use of CCTV, biometric technology, and 24/7 personnel. Finally, in the event of an emergency, you can failover your systems to the local device which has all your data and applications, or if you have the Axcient Cloud Continuity option, you can easily virtualize your servers in the cloud for complete recovery and use of all your data and applications.
