Axcient's roadmap vision for product releases

Axcient’s Roadmap of Partner-Facing Releases in 2024

In 2024, Axcient deployed 40 partner-facing releases for x360Recover, our business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) solution, and x360Cloud for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace backup. A partner-facing release is any new deployment that includes a change an end user would be aware of. Those 40 releases included 137 enhancements and 29 major features. In addition to those enhancements, we also included 227 maintenance and security-related items, including bug fixes.

Deciding what features and improvements to include in our releases is a collaborative effort guided by input from our MSP partners and insights into market trends. By analyzing this feedback, our product and design teams identify solutions that address widespread challenges across Axcient’s partner base. These efforts align with four key themes that underpin our mission to eliminate data loss: Protect Everything, Recovery First, MSP Experience, and Flexibility. Together, these themes shape a product that ensures flexible deployment, numerous recovery options, and a user-friendly experience tailored to the needs of MSPs and their clients.

Protecting Everything

x360Recover

In 2024, we made significant strides in expanding Axcient’s roadmap for data protection capabilities to Protect Everything™ regardless of location, size, type, budget, operating system, SaaS, public, private, or hybrid cloud. x360Recover now supports macOS, addressing one of the top feature requests from our partners. JumpCloud’s State of IT 2024 shows that macOS comprises 22% of organizational devices. By adding macOS to our supported platforms, MSPs can now seamlessly protect Windows, Linux, and macOS environments, but we didn’t stop there. This year, we also extended compatibility to include RedHat 9, Debian 12, several new Linux kernels, and Ubuntu Noble (24.04). These enhancements expand the threat surface MSPs can protect so that no matter your client’s system environment, Axcient has them covered.

We also introduced Geo+, a new feature that provides geo-redundant backup copies to enhance data protection further. Geo+ enhances cybersecurity compliance by integrating Chain-Free, image-based technology with AirGap safeguards for immutable data backups and long-term retention options. This feature helps MSPs easily pass cybersecurity insurance audits, ensuring critical data remains secure and protected.

To meet the growing demand for data compliance solutions in Canada, Axcient launched the x360Cloud Canadian data center in Q2. This dedicated data center ensures that locally stored backups comply with Canadian compliance regulations. MSPs supporting clients in Canada can now confidently offer secure and compliant backup solutions that meet both operational and legal requirements.

A Focus on Recovery First and MSP Experience

Recovery is at the heart of what we do. This year, we launched several features to make recovery faster, easier, and more intuitive for MSPs. In Q2, we introduced a Windows system tray icon that displays read-only backup health and status information. By Q3, MSPs gained the ability to enable or disable this tray via the agent configuration, streamlining endpoint management. We also rolled out a macOS UI installer, giving MSPs flexibility with scripted or interactive deployments, similar to our Windows options.

Dashboard enhancements were another primary focus in 2024 to give technicians a one-stop-shop dashboard to find systems needing attention and quickly drive action. We consolidated data by combining health and system tabs into a single screen, updated styles, and revamped quick actions. These changes simplify onboarding clients, managing organizational settings, and initiating recovery for technicians to lower tech debt. New quick filters and shortcuts to vault and appliance GUIs (graphical user interfaces), combined with AutoVerify and boot VM results, empower MSPs to troubleshoot and clean up environments productively.

We also unified the recovery process within the x360Recover Manager (formerly RMC). The Recovery Wizard now consolidates all recovery and restore actions in one place. The wizard supports straightforward and efficient recovery scenarios, from file and folder recovery through FTPS to virtual disk exports, which now support Azure-compatible VHDs.

Backup transparency is critical, and in 2024, Axcient’s roadmap focused on that insight. The new object backup status report offers a detailed list of objects causing partial or failed backup jobs. If the backup of a single object – email, calendar event, contract, or file – fails constantly during a 24-hour period, the backup status of the respective user account shows as partial – even when other objects were successfully backed up. To give partners even more control, we’ve enabled them to exclude problematic objects from the backup process. This prevents single errors from delaying entire backup cycles, allowing MSPs to troubleshoot at their own pace while ensuring uninterrupted daily backups for their clients.

In Q1, in response to partner feedback, Axcient introduced browsing capabilities for SharePoint data. Locating specific files and folders without knowing their exact names was a common frustration. With the new browsing feature, partners can easily navigate through the document library and pinpoint files or folders for recovery. Additionally, we added point-in-time filtering, allowing partners to specify versions by date and time for precise recovery. This additional feature significantly improves the SharePoint recovery experience, ensuring rapid and reliable recovery.

Enhancing Flexibility

x360Recover

We recognize the diverse needs of MSPs and their clients, so we’ve prioritized flexibility in every aspect of the Axcient’s roadmap for the platform. In 2024, we launched public APIs for x360Recover and billing, supported by our Axcient Developer Network. This initiative simplifies integrations for partners and vendors, enabling seamless workflows. With over 200 integrators using the API, solutions like BrightGauge, Binary Fortress, Scalepad Backup Radar, and others now natively integrate with x360Recover.

To further enhance accessibility, we added single sign-on (SSO) support for ConnectWise, complementing our existing Entra ID integration. MSPs can now link their x360Recover accounts with ConnectWise Home for a quick and easy login experience.

x360Cloud

Recovering mailbox data has never been more efficient. In 2024, Axcient introduced PST export capabilities, enabling partners to download mail and contact data directly from the x360Cloud platform. This feature facilitates effortless storage or integration with external applications and provides a fast recovery option for Exchange Online. Every export includes a detailed CSV content list for transparency, ensuring that partners can verify exported data.

Streamlining workflows and offering centralized management have always been important for MSPs. In 2024, we integrated x360Cloud with ConnectWise Asio under Backup360. This integration allows partners to map ConnectWise companies to x360Cloud organizations, creating a seamless sync between platforms. Partners can now monitor and report on backup SLA statuses directly within the Asio platform, simplifying management and delivering exceptional service. Configuring the integration is straightforward, requiring partners to generate a client ID and secret in Asio and use them to create an API token in x360Cloud.

What’s Coming on Axcient’s Roadmap for 2025

Axcient’s Roadmap for x360Recover – A Sneak Peek

Looking ahead, we’re excited about several initiatives that will further streamline MSP operations, improving margins and profitability. In January, we’ll enhance the onboarding workflow by enabling agent downloads directly within x360Recover Manager. This will eliminate the need to navigate multiple portals, reducing onboarding time and simplifying the process of protecting client data.

We’re also addressing a common pain point: navigating between multiple portals to monitor and troubleshoot jobs. In 2025, we’ll integrate job monitoring data directly into the protected system details pages within x360Recover Manager. This change will save time and reduce complexity, allowing MSPs to focus on delivering exceptional service.

Axcient’s Roadmap for x360Cloud – What’s Next

Exciting developments are on the horizon as we enter the new year. One such development is the introduction of point-in-time exporting for expanded services, providing even more precision and flexibility in data management. Axcient and the x360Cloud development team remain committed to delivering innovative, partner-driven solutions. They are focused on helping MSPs manage BCDR more effectively, increase recovery capabilities, and provide a positive customer experience.

Thank You for a Great 2024!

As we prepare for 2025, we’d like to thank all our partners for their trust and collaboration. We’re excited to continue this journey together and look forward to sharing more groundbreaking advancements in the year ahead. Here’s to a secure and prosperous 2025!
