x360Recover for macOS Early Access

Axcient empowers MSPs to Protect Everything™ with business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) options for all devices, now including macOS data. x360Recover is already trusted to secure the full availability of backup data for Windows and Linux endpoints, complete public cloud data protection, including Microsoft Azure, and now—for Mac data. Early Access signup for x360Recover for macOS is now open.

Historically, Windows machines were the overwhelming choice for business, and macOS devices were found in specialty roles and departments with heavy design needs. Today, MSPs have seen a 35% increase in demand to secure macOS devices and their business data. Axcient partners frequently requested that we extend our x360Recover capabilities to provide BCDR to those Macs without including the stress of multiple BDR solutions. We listened.

Ransomware Threats and the Need for Security for macOS

This growing ransomware threat is why Axcient is building new capabilities to ensure MSPs can Protect Everything™ for their clients on whatever device they choose with a single, hyper-flexible solution.

One of the most often partner-requested enhancements for x360Recover has been an agent to protect Mac machines. As more and more small businesses adopt Macs, MSPs are asked to protect and secure Mac data. Conventional wisdom used to hold that ransomware was a Windows problem, and Macs were not targeted. It doesn’t happen often, but we are seeing instances of Mac-compatible ransomware variants. To gain some insight into the threat, review the timeline prepared by UpGuard.

In early 2024, after a backdoor threat first identified by Bitdefender, an alert was issued by CompTIA ISAO to a new resource added to their watched category. This macOS backdoor is linked to prominent ransomware groups. And not surprisingly, backing up your macOS data is the primary mitigation suggestion, along with system images and configs, and then testing it.
