Top Improvements to x360Recover in 2023

Backup and Recovery of Linux-Protected Systems:

By expanding Axcient’s protection surface, MSPs can expand comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) services – now for Linux clients. Linux support also includes the Bare Metal Restore (BMR) utility, a Linux Live CD for performing system recovery, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and general digital forensics.

Incremental Vault Recovery:

Vault recovery has always been available on x360Recover, but with incremental vault recovery, MSPs can recover faster and with a lower risk of data loss. When an appliance is lost or damaged, or you’re transitioning a protected system from x360Recover Direct-to-Cloud (D2C) mode to appliance mode, incremental vault recovery significantly speeds and simplifies these processes. With this addition, MSPs can repurpose existing, third-party BDR hardware as an x360Recover appliance to maintain backup continuity, meet stringent SLA requirements, and reduce costs.

Client Executive Summary Report:

Weekly, customizable, and white label-able reports generated from your x360 Portal to demonstrate proof of automatic backup testing and backup health with a Boot VM screenshot. Support compliance and cyber insurance requirements quickly and without error-prone and time-consuming manual management. MSPs can also use these reports to build confidence, reinforce BCDR services, and support quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with clients.

License Portal Consolidation:

Based on MSP feedback, we needed to streamline the login requirements for each portal to reduce management complexity and access barriers. Since consolidating x360Recover licensing tools into the x360 Portal, Axcient has also built new capabilities within the x360Recover Manager – including client, account, user, and password management improvements.

Retention Policy Changes in 2023

Retention Management Optimization:

Similarly to how you adjust, add to, and maintain backup policies, MSPs can now streamline managing retention policies for vaults and protected systems. Axcient replaced resource-intensive manual requirements with just two steps. First, define retention policies ahead of time. Second, assign those policies to the appropriate protected systems. This new capability is a prerequisite to Axcient’s global retention policies, scheduled for release in late 2024.

Default Retention Policy Update:

In the 12.2.0 release for x360Recover, Axcient modified its retention policies, introducing the following adjustments.

  • New default retention policy: Tiered retention for six months for servers and three months for desktops. This applies to newly added protected systems backing up or replicating to the Axcient Cloud
  • New tiered retention: As the modern standard, Axcient recommends it for all use cases and environments. This process removes recovery points differently based on various time frames or tiers. Now, MSPs can specify the number of daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly recovery points for a given system, with intervening backups automatically removed and consolidated.

What did NOT change…

  • Existing protected systems in the Axcient Cloud before the 12.2.0 release keep their retention policies without changing settings.
  • Local appliances, Local Cache, and private cloud vaults will keep their retention policy settings with changing defaults or limits.

What’s Coming: Early Access Opportunities

Current partners can register for early access to get releases before they’re launched.

Backup and Recovery of macOS-Protected Systems:

As Axcient continues to expand MSP capabilities with x360Recover, we’re delivering BCDR for macOS data. MSPs can grow their BCDR services efficiently and profitably without adding additional vendors, solutions, or complexity.

NAS Backup:
