Why x360Recover Public APIs for MSPs?

MSPs are excited about x360Recover Open APIs because they support speed and productivity with automation and insights by connecting various tools within the x360Recover business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) solution. The modern RESTful APIs (a.k.a. REST APIs or RESTful web APIs) provided by x360Recover facilitate seamless fusion within the MSP solution ecosystem. Combining customized tools and BCDR-specific data enhances the effectiveness of existing automation scripts, tools, and available insights.

By leveraging Axcient Public APIs, MSPs can streamline routine tasks to guarantee that all tools work cohesively together. Additionally, x360Recover Open APIs allow for data extraction for dashboards and reports, enabling better business visibility and decision-making. Unification improves operational efficiency and increases the value and “stickiness” of x360Recover as a foundational part of many MSP cybersecurity strategies. The result is furthering consolidated efficiency for BCDR usability, management ease, and unending business continuity.

Generally speaking, Axcient’s Public or Open APIs invite MSPs and SMBs to integrate third-party products with x360Recover data to get an unobstructed view of protected systems through a single interface.

x360Recover Public API Capabilities: The First Wave

The initial version of open APIs supports GET information for the following:

  • Axcient vaults
  • Protected systems
  • Backup jobs
  • Clients
  • Appliances
  • Organizations

Currently, x360Recover Public APIs are read-only, meaning you can pull x360Recover data into other platforms but not vice versa. However, by releasing them read-only during early access, MSPs can still utilize the APIs to access data within x360Recover to drive workflows, dashboards, automation, and auditing. As an MSP-only solution provider, Axcient is committed to the channel, which is why we power product developments based on MSP use and feedback. So, while the open APIs roll out in waves, each new iteration builds on the best parts of the previous release – while at the same time, developers are fixing or replacing less useful functionality.

While read-write is being developed, MSP partner integrators (that’s you) and solutions integrators (or third parties that want to extend x360Recover to their products) can access information within x360Recover to extend workflows and data sets. Leveraging simple and secure data retrieval, MSPs are empowered to make informed decisions, automate workflows, and achieve business objectives faster.

Testing x360Recover APIs Before Requesting Early Access

Axcient released open APIs to the first cohort of users: MSPs who previously registered for early access. Partners were hand-picked based on their readiness to dive into the tool immediately. Because we rely on partner feedback to direct product improvements, we need currently active API users to experience the usability, functionality, and performance quickly. This is critical during the initial release stages to maintain anticipated timelines and actively address tickets and submissions for the subsequent expansion phases.

Sign up for early access if you’re considering how your MSP might utilize x360Recover Public APIs. But if you already know how you’re going to implement these tools and you’re ready to get started today or tomorrow, reach out individually via email to let us know!

Regardless of when you’re ready to get hands-on, we want MSPs accessing the developer network, API documentation, and testing to experiment with coding something using the data you’re most familiar with. Find a repetitive, time-consuming, and labor-intensive task and see if you can automate it with APIs. Identify ways for your technicians to free up their time using automation to reduce overhead and tech debt, reallocate resources, and invite innovation over low-value manual tasks.

Visit developer.axcient.com to access the following – even if you’ve not yet received the open APIs:

  • API Documentation: OpenAPI or Swagger format with a downloadable YAML payload that can be added to any SDK generators, code bases, or ChatGPT if you want to generate code. Because it follows the typical standards, the tool works with other tools that accept those payloads.

  • API Testing with Mock Servers: To test against mock servers, use https://ax-pub-recover.wiremockapi.cloud/ as the base URL to explore and experiment with x360Recover Public APIs safely.

Over time, Axcient will continue rolling out open APIs to more MSP groups until the tools perform efficiently enough for general availability toward the end of 2024 (fingers crossed!). With that said, once GA is launched, every x360Recover partner will gain automatic access to the APIs as a built-in feature of x360Recover. There is no pay-to-play. This is just another new Axcient product upgrade designed exclusively for MSPs.

Getting the Keys to x360Recover Public APIs

Log into the Axcient partner portal and select API Keys from the Settings menu to get started. Click Add API Key on the opposite side of the screen. If you don’t see this option, you have not yet received access to the APIs, but you can still go to developer.axcient.com to get a first look and play with the tool. When you do gain access, you will be notified by an Axcient team member via email.

x360Recover Public APIs keys

In the pop-up box, name and generate the key. It will then be displayed in the API key repository you see above. Right now, you have to be an administrator to create a key, as it’s not yet available to basic users. Take note that whenever an administrator creates a key, it’s assigned the same access permissions the administrator has for the products. This means that keys are essentially user-based, but organizational-level keys will be available later this year with more customization options.

Public API for x360Recover Use Case: Dashboards in React

Created inside of React, Axcient’s product owners built a client dashboard that grabs a list of all the clients contained in a system while also providing device counts. With this perspective, MSPs can see every health status in a single view for maximum efficiency with fewer clicks.

Click on View Devices to pull up all the devices underneath each client. This enables MSPs to access various new pieces of information within a single, concise view. MSPs can see usage and health stats by clicking the Device Details Page link, which opens that device directly in x360Recover.

Now, rather than having to navigate to the device through various steps, switching platforms, and wasting time, MSPs can easily move in and out of different views of clients and devices for optimal BCDR management best practices.

This is a pretty basic flow example – just two API calls: one to get the list of clients and display them in a tile view and one to create a link to an action that pulls the devices up for each client.

Public API for x360Recover Use Case: Quick View in FlutterFlow

Our product owners also built quick view functionality using FlutterFlow, a no-code tool for UI, clean code, and web deployment. Using a similar flow to the dashboard use case, for this example, the API gets a list of all the clients using an API at that time. For clients relying on devices, click the Devices button to open and view everything at once.

Using this API for x360Recover, MSP techs can oversee systems to quickly determine each client’s health status. Easily cycle through the information to pull alerting, monitoring, or any other information you want to see. Bring it all to the top level to visualize anything the API displays to extend insights and accuracy.

Whenever an API is called, it looks for a piece of information called an endpoint or a targeted request for information. Learn more about x360Recover Public APIs and watch a live demo of Axcient’s Public APIs Product Team Call with Partners.
