You CAN Take it With You! Tailoring Your BDR for BYOD and BYOC

In this article, we’re highlighting the backup and disaster recovery (BDR) flexibility that MSPs should have so they can Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC). Business owners can end up putting their businesses at risk because they are unhappy with the options provided by their vendors. Whether it’s cost, availability, maintenance, or preference, clients may try to forego this critical protection if they don’t like the BDR solution provided by their MSP. To meet the disparate needs of clients, BDR solutions must solve multiple use cases for client satisfaction while supporting stack simplicity for MSP profitability.

Would you partner with a company whose services were rigid and singular? Probably not. Put yourself in your client’s shoes to see yourself in cyber… Now, discover how to deliver the services clients want with the efficiency you need.

BYOD and BYOC for BDR = Choice and Flexibility

Axcient focuses on solving MSP-specific pain points with a comprehensive all-in-one solution that goes beyond just BDR. Central to these principles are choice and flexibility. Our backup, business continuity, and disaster recovery solution, x360Recover, is both hardware and cloud agnostic. This unique foundation lets MSPs and their SMB clients enjoy BYOD and BYOC for BDR.

BYOD, or Bring Your Own Device, means MSPs and their clients have device options:

  1. Build or repurpose existing hardware and use it as a local BDR appliance.
  2. Purchase a turn-key hardware and software bundle directly from Axcient.
  3. Lease the hardware from Axcient.

BYOC, or Bring Your Own Cloud, provides similar options for cloud-based deployments:

  1. Use the secure and compliant Axcient Cloud.
  2. Use your own private cloud through your data center.
  3. Use the public cloud.
  4. Use both the Axcient Cloud and their private cloud to retain multiple off-site copies of data.

With BYOD and BYOC for BDR, MSPs can design the ultimate service for their clients based on total cost of ownership (TCO), service level agreements (SLAs), deployment options, and individual preferences. Depending on client requirements and industry-specific use cases, this level of choice and flexibility can be a must-have for effective data protection. On top of that, because both BYOD and BYOC are included by default in Axcient’s consolidated BDR solution, MSPs can simplify their stack to reduce the negative consequences of vendor sprawl and drive operational efficiency.

BYOD: Your Device or Ours?

BYOD presents valuable cost-saving opportunities if you have an existing device or find an inexpensive device that meets Axcient’s hardware requirements. Saving clients these initial upfront costs (which can be expensive) and allowing them the option to repurpose something they already have is instantly attractive to a client’s bottom line. x360Recover BYOD for BDR requires MSPs to download and install Axcient software onto their approved hardware.

Axcient’s 4-tiered onboarding program, responsive support team, and Best Practices section of our extensive Knowledge Base are all available to get started quickly. After completing the “Setup & Configuration” stage, x360Recover automatically updates the software and agents regularly. There are no additional requirements for managing the underlying operating system.

If you’d rather use an Axcient device, we have three options available for purchase or lease with default or advanced configuration choices. Appliances can be shipped directly to your MSP or your client.

  1. The x360Recover Eco2: A compact server that comes in two models: 1.) Eco2-1500 with 1.5 TB usable storage and 16 GB of RAM, or 2.) Eco2-3000 with 3 TB of usable storage and 16 GB of RAM.
  2. The x360Recover Mini2: A mini tower that includes a Xeon E-2126G, with either 32 or 64 GB RAM, and a 3-year or extended 4 or 5-year warranty. This is our most popular device due to storage capacity and price point.
  3. Rack Gen2: A standard 2U 19” server rack chassis with (8) 3.5” hot swap drive bays. The default configuration is 4 bays with 2, 4, or 8 TB disks, and the remaining four slots can be populated with like-sized disks to double the initial storage capacity.

All Axcient branded BDR hardware models include an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) for the best possible remote management and monitoring functionality. IPMI saves MSPs time and operational costs with powerful management and monitoring capabilities that are independent of the host system’s CPU, firmware, BIOs, or operating system. With IPMI, MSPs can perform off-site management on deployed BDR devices independently from core system hardware. For example, you can power off, power on, and reset an unresponsive device at the OS layer. Also included are remote Keyboard-Video-Monitor (KVM) capabilities that let MSPs operate devices remotely with the same level of access they would have physically seated at the keyboard.

BYOC: Your Cloud or Ours?

For MSPs with their own private or self-hosted cloud vaults, Axcient offers BYOC for x360Recover Direct-to-Cloud (D2C). x360Recover D2C backs up remote endpoints, desktops, laptops, servers, and workstations directly to the cloud without a BDR appliance. With D2C, MSPs have three choices: backup to the Axcient Cloud, their own private cloud through their data center, or the public cloud. To retain multiple off-site copies of data for additional security, MSPs can use both the Axcient Cloud as well as their own cloud.

Tens of thousands of companies worldwide choose to host their data in Axcient data centers because of our multi-level physical and virtual security. Axcient data centers have exceeded industry standards for security, integrity, resiliency, availability, and performance for years. Axcient data centers are SSAE 16 Type II Certified or SOC Certified and have 99.999% reliability. That translates to less than 5 minutes of downtime on average per year. Additionally, Axcient data centers undergo regular and strict audits to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
